12 Hour Enduro at PIR

On a crisp, clear Fall day in Portland International Raceway our team of 6 drivers covered over a thousand miles and 510 laps in Mike Helton’s BMW M3. The event was the “12 Hours of the Cascades” put on by the Cascade Sports Car Club . The result was an astounding first in our P1 class and a second place overall.

Fighter Pilot For A Day

Bo takes to the air in the Air Combat “Fighter Pilot for a Day” program - a civilian dog fighting school. This fighter pilot experience includes some classroom training and an hour “dogfight” in a SIAI Marchetti SF-260 Italian aeorobatic aircraft that flies like a small jet. The aircraft is fitted with onboard cameras and a tracking system that verifies an air-to-air “kill”. Everything is real except the bullets!

A New York Minute…

Somehow in all my years of travelling I missed New York, so this was my first visit - albeit a brief one - and we managed to pack a lot into just a few days.

A Wedding in Guatemala

It’s not often I wear a tux, but for my Dad and now wife Cheryl, I made an exception in the fashion department.  …not to mention lugging it all the way down to Guatemala for the wedding.  As it turns out, this trip turned out to be fantastic in so many ways - spending time with family, seeing old friends and meeting new ones, and traveling to places like this beach in Santiago Atitlan:

Why Guatemala?  …well, click below for the rest of the story and some great photos.

17 years ago I went to the Eastgate Humane Society and a little 4 week old kitten sat in the corner of the cage… At that moment, I knew this little critter and I would have a bond that would be unlike any other pet, the rest is the history of a relationship that spanned from being a terror cat to being my loving kitty soul mate. Anyone who has spent time with Leon has a story to tell about their encounters with him. He was anything but ordinary… Leon had a wonderful life and we were blessed to have him apart of ours. He died in the company of friends - whom I am deeply grateful to have had around when we were not here to be with him. He is now resting on our property with a beautiful white peony to mark his territory. Thank you to all who have said so many comforting words to ease our loss.leon3.jpg

Mauna Kea’s Back Country

In the shadow of Mauna Kea, Mana Road winds it’s way 45 miles from the southeastern flank near Saddle Road around 6500′ in elevation to it’s northern face in Waimea.  In the 1800’s, this was a cattle trail on the Parker Ranch.  There are still a lot of cattle along with Koa tree forests, ponds full of Nene geese, a beautiful wildlife refuge and amazing scenery.

New Zealand 2008 - Part 1

We left the Love Shack at Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island of Hawaii at 2:30 PM Friday January 25th and 24 hours later, we were one day ahead (January 27th) and checking into the Hapuku Lodge in Kaikoru, New Zealand (South Island) close to 5000 miles away from the shack.    ….tired, probably really smelly, but running on adrenaline and just plain happy to be here, we grabbed a bottle of champagne and took this picture about 10 minutes away on the beach:

 Hapuku Lodge on the beach

This is the story of our travels in the month of February through the South Island of New Zealand where we will (or “have” depending on when you read this) race in three consecutive weekends of the biggest vintage races on this island in “Pete” (my ‘69 BMW 2002 who has travelled in slightly lesser conditions inside of a container on a ship)….  We will be updating this blog regularly with photos and even in-car video of each race track.  …so check back often…

Dusty’s Adventures

The weather here in West Hawaii has been really incredible these past few weeks and I have had a few opportunities to get “Dusty” (KLR-650 motorcycle) out for a few long rides.   Last week, inspired by a similar trek by sister Kathleen and her friend Peter, I headed North to “the end of the road” where the coastal highway ends at the Pololu overlook.  This is quite a panoramic view of the valley, ocean and Kohala Mountains.
