Grand Forks in 3 Days

It sounded plausible enough - Bo wanted the Suzuki DL-650 at the University of North Dakota where he is finishing his first year in aviation. It made sense for him to have his own set of wheels due to his almost daily trips to the local airport. After looking at my schedule, the best opportunity to deliver it in person was in early April before the racing season. I could travel on US Hwy 2 over Marias Pass, see country I had never seen before and get a day or two with Brian at his home away from home. I booked a one-way ticket back on April 11th and decided to make an easy 4-day trip out of the 1600 miles I would need to cover.

brewfest - pete jack suzanne

Here’s a photo album of our past few weeks here in K-Bay. One of the main reasons we came this time of year is to attend the annual BrewFest, put on by the Kona Brewery in conjunction with the Bill Healy Foundation. The money raised at this fun fun event, goes to multiple charities and causes.

A New Race Car Is Born!

After a few seasons driving my 1969 BMW 2002 - #068 - I decided that although it was a great car to learn in, there were a few areas that could be improved. The opportunity came about after finding a ‘69 2002 shell in Idaho in August of 2006. Jim Froula, owner of Racecraft, was in the midst of partnering with Terry Forland (a fellow BMW 2002 enthusiast) and the timing seemed right to have this pair build a new car for the 2007 season.

Suzanne’s New Ride

Since Jack can’t be the only one with all the fun over here, I needed to feel the need for speed too! OK, speed is a realitive term here. My new little toy is a Yamaha TW200 and it’s perfect for me (notice the basket on the back!).

The name “Dusty” brings forth visions of cowpokes on the range with sturdy horses that are sure footed and unflappable. That is the type of name that the new Kawasaki KLR650 now wears as a badge of honor after an 8 1/2 hour round trip adventure to and around Mauna Kea on an unimproved “road” named simply R-1.

February 16th is my beautiful Aunt Nancy’s birthday. I flew down to Orange County to see my sister, Brenda and meet up with my Mom. The three of us went for a breathtaking walk along the Newport Beach coast prior to going to a fun dinner.

New Toy for the Love Shack

I’ve been wanting to have a motorcycle here at Kealekakua Bay for many years. Now with a place to keep one, I set out to find a bike that would give me everything I wanted for the Big Island. I wanted a dual sport bike that would motor along paved roads adequately but would also allow for off road adventures. That bike is the Kawasaki KLR650 - a 2007 model I just picked up at Kiser Motorcycles in Kona this week.

UND

Greetings from the Midwest,

I never thought I would honestly be saying that. Going to college has been quite the experience, and the culture shock the midwest provides has proven even more interesting. First things first though; I am here at the University of North Dakota to major in Commercial Aviation, and possibly double major in Air Traffic Control. I already have my private pilot’s license, and am now working on my commercial and instrument rating.

Here’s a photo of me and my instructor:

“Love Shack”

Suzanne and I have recently moved into the “Love Shack” at Kealekekua Bay South of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. The shack is about a block away from Manini Beach and in a small village. We have been coming to this area for years and now have a place to call our own. Here are a few photos:
